In 2022, Apple is rumored to launch new 11.1-inch and 13-inch OLED iPad Pros models that will feature OLED displays instead of LCD screens. The cost of procuring the panels will reportedly account for the largest share of material costs.
Apple is reportedly negotiating with Samsung and LG Display regarding the supply price of the panels. These panels will require the use of production processes that have not been combined before for OLED screens of the required size. One of these new production processes is the use of a two-stack tandem structure. That is expected to double the brightness and quadruple the lifespan of the OLED iPad Pros displays.
The report also indicates that LG Display is developing both 11.1-inch and 13-inch OLED panels for the iPad. While Samsung is only developing the 11.1-inch panel, Samsung may end up developing both sizes depending on production requirements.
The supply price of OLED panels for current 10-inch devices is around $100 to $150.
